The City of Palm Coast has partnered with Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, and Flagler Schools for a video public service announcement to emphasize traffic safety in the new 2025-2026 school year as school buses prepare to make their return to the roadways next week. The campaign is designed to remind drivers to exercise patience, take caution and be aware of proper protocol and procedures when driving near buses and in school zones.

“It goes without saying that safety is always our first priority for all of our residents here in the City of Palm Coast and Flagler County as a whole,” said Lauren Johnston, Acting City Manager from the City of Palm Coast. We want to make sure that everyone is aware of school being back in session and emphasize being patient and aware at all times.”

School zone safety is also another major component of the campaign, with emphasis on speed limit awareness, obeying traffic signals and crossing guards, and expecting delays when driving through school zones.

“Being aware of school zones during peak hours helps protect everyone - students walking, families driving and buses on the road,” said Flagler Schools Superintendent LaShakia Moore. “We appreciate our community and their support in helping keep all of our students and our families safe as we kickoff the new school year.”

The campaign also highlights infractions and citations that may occur when motorists disobey traffic laws as they pertain to school and bus safety.

“Simply obeying the traffic laws and not driving distracted on our roads not only helps assure that everyone remains safe but also prevents you from receiving a traffic citation or getting into a crash,” said Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly. “Failure to slow down in school zones or stop for stop sign signals on school buses can result in hefty fines, points on your license, and far worse consequences if someone gets hurt.”

Flagler Schools will officially start it’s 2025-2026 school year next Monday, August 11. View the video PSA here: https://youtu.be/rW8cQbGOpOc
