Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to ensure the safety of patrons at the City's public swimming facility. Employees in this classification perform at entry staff level and are responsible for monitoring various swimming activities as well as assisting with special activities. Employee assists in maintaining pool and surrounding facility area. Objective is to ensure safety and general welfare of the public engaging in all swimming activities through guarding and instructing patrons. High School Diploma or GED required, unless currently enrolled in High School; supplemented by a demonstrated ability to perform the physical requirements of the position; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must possess and maintain current American Red Cross or nationally recognized lifeguard certification, CPR, and First Aid Certifications. AED for the professional and Water Safety Instructor Certifications are Preferred. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age upon hire.
City of Palm is offering In-house training and certification to include certification in; CPR, First Aid, AED and Lifeguard Certification. Training will take place sometime in March and April, dates to follow. Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position. Must be able to swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Must be able to tread water for 2 minutes using only legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits. Complete a timed event within 1 minute, and 40 seconds.
